Career Summary
John is the Managing Director of the Lexington office of Sperry Van Ness and shares leadership responsibilities with his partner, Steve Pulliam. He has been active in commercial real estate for 23 years and brings his extensive business and management history to bear for the benefit of his long list of satisfied clients. His focus on multi-family transactions is enhanced by being a member of the Greater Lexington Apartment Association and his current position on its Board of Directors. He also is President Elect of the Kentucky CCIM Chapter-Lexington District, and is a long standing member of both the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors, and the Commercial Property Association of Lexington.
Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness in 2007, he was Principal Broker of his own real estate firm for 15 years and was involved in real estate brokerage, investments and construction. Previous to that, he owned and operated transportation companies for 22 years and provided service to customers primarily located east of the Mississippi River. Early in his career, he worked as an Engineer in the defense industry and served his country as a pilot in the U. S. Air Force. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He is married, has three adult children, and has been an avid golfer since his caddying days during childhood.

Lee has an extensive background in real estate as an owner, manager and broker. Multifamily being his specialty he also has a background in land, retail and industrial/warehouse. With sales over the past decade in excess of $140,000,000 he has been one of the most active brokers in Kentucky and been involved in real estate for over 35 years. Lee has also been involved in development projects, earthwork construction, site preparation and home construction.
Personal and Career Summary:
Growing up in the coal fields of eastern Kentucky, Lee was involved in mining at an early age with coal being a family business. Throughout his life with the vast amount of earthwork he has done, he has completed development projects from raw land to the pad ready in many types of construction. From management of apartments since he was 17 to at times being the holder of over 300 multifamily units and 50 single family homes. After attending Southwest Texas State University in the mid 1970’s Lee returned to Lexington and graduated from Transylvania University with a degree in Business Administration. Shortly afterward he moved to Lexington permanently and remained there ever since. Being involved in real estate, coal mining, construction, farming and the thoroughbred racing industry he joined Seminon Realtors in 1999, moved to Silvestri Craig Realtors in 2006 and joined Sperry in 2009. He is a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Thoroughbred Breeders of America, and the National Association of Realtors. Lee has been married to Sharri K. Greer for 31 years and has a 27 year old son who is an attorney in greater Lexington. Career Summary
Mr. Hilliard joined Sperry Van Ness as a Senior Advisor in 2009. He has worked in the commercial real estate field for over 30 years since first obtaining an Illinois Real Estate Salesperson’s license in 1977.
For over twenty years, Mr. Hilliard was Treasurer and Head of the Finance and Reality Department for a large, multi-national, private company. In addition to his duties as the senior financial officer, his responsibilities included acquisition, disposition, and leasing for a portfolio of over 200 owned and leased properties used in the company’s operating businesses. Over his career, he acquired, expanded, or divested over 35 production facilities and handled numerous, smaller transactions. In addition, he created, managed, and ultimately sold investment portfolios with investments in over 2.5 million square feet of office, industrial, and retail properties in the United States and Canada. Mr. Hilliard analyzed all portfolio acquisitions, dispositions, and debt financings and in many instances directly negotiated purchases and sales.
Prior to his corporate role, Mr. Hilliard operated a brokerage business that focused on commercial, industrial, and residential brokerage as well as land acquisition. In addition, he built homes and performed real estate appraisals. Mr. Hilliard also has owned and operated a restaurant business and a farming operation specializing in direct-marketed, grass finished beef.

Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness in 2006, Steve was Principal of his own investment/sales firm, The Pulliam Company since 1991. He has been married for 32 years to his wife, Diana and has one teenage son Evan. Steve was a former US Army Finance Officer and Graduate of the University of Kentucky Business School class of 1974. Steve enjoys golfing, cooking and traveling.

Matt has most recently begun consulting with banks and private investors, to help with property evaluation for distressed loan purchasing, workouts, REO disposition, and general opinions of value, for property in Kentucky and across the entire U.S. Matt and his team continue to perform property management for retail and industrial properties throughout Central Kentucky. In his first 4 years as an advisor with Sperry Van Ness, Matt has already brokered gross sales and leasing exceeding 15 million dollars.
